Fishing and Conservation
The Club is a small community of like-minded fisherman who enjoy their surroundings as much as the fishing. During the autumn and winter we work on the riverbank to maintain the best possible natural habitat for the fish and other wildlife. We believe fishing conservation go hand in hand.
The Club owns the fishing rights on a significant portion of the By Brook, a small limestone stream near Bath. The brook rises south of Tormarton and joins the Bristol Avon at Batheaston. This is wild trout fishing at its most natural - small, wily native brown trout in their natural habitat.

The Brook is fed by the springs and streams in the deep valleys of the southern Cotswolds and the water is generally clear with a mix of slow, deep pools and fast flowing gravel shallows.
The club waters start below Slaughterford and meander south through pasture and woodland to Drewett’s Mill, on the western slope of Box Hill.
There is approximately 3km of double bank fishing and 1km of single bank fishing, as the crow flies, although on foot actual distances are at least double this!

There is a good head of small, wild trout (6-8 inches), occasionally running up to 1lb or even 2lb. Catch and release is strongly encouraged, however trout over 8 inches can be taken.
The Brook has a good Mayfly hatch and steady fly life during the year. This is a fly-only club but not restricted to upstream dry fly; you can fish downstream wet flies and nymphs.
A reasonable standard of competence and fitness is required (access is mostly on foot with steep banks) - experienced members are often available to guide the less experienced
Joining the Club
Membership gives unlimited access to the fishing but carries with it an obligation to help manage the habitat in the best long term interests of the indigenous wild trout population. Help us preserve this fishing for future generations.
